The affable Robert Young, who would go on to become a household face as the star of the TV shows Father Knows Best and Marcus Welby, M.D, plays against type for the only time in his long career in this little-seen noir melodrama. Actor-turned-director Irving Pichel and noir producer extraordinaire Joan Harrison craft a story of a week-willed, caddish, yet somehow endearing stock broker (Young) who cheats on his wealthy wife (Rita Johnson) with a pretty columnist (Jane Greer). When his wife reminds him which side his bread is buttered on he crawls back to her. His seeming unwillingness to give up the lifestyle he's become accustomed to changes when he becomes involved with a sexy file clerk in his office (Susan Hayward). The two commit embezzlement and run away together but fate has other plans for them. This compelling and candid story of coded adultery is told mostly in flashback as Young's character testifies in court where he's been accused of murder.

This little-seen noir melodrama is a compelling and candid tale of coded adultery with Robert Young playing against type as a weak-willed stockbroker guilty of more than just cheating on his wealthy wife.
