James Thurber’s beloved short story about a milquetoast daydreamer who gets caught up in a real-life adventure is commandeered (as much as adapted) into a mildly successful star vehicle for Danny Kaye. An uneven, sometimes charming, sometimes tedious Technicolor fantasy that plays much better for the 12-and-under set (but if you judge it on the level, it's perfectly enjoyable, especially since Kaye's verbal gymnastics are so much fun).
