Communion

Christopher Walken delivers an unhinged performance (even for him!) as horror novelist Whitley Strieber (The Wolfen, The Hunger) in this "true story" about the author's abduction by aliens. It is a bizarre picture that takes its subject matter very seriously, leaving little doubt that its protagonist has indeed interacted with two different types of outer space visitors who take him to their ship, stick a needle in his head, and give him a rectal probe. But this picture's goofy way of depicting its aliens is hard to take seriously. Lindsay Crouse gives one of her warmest and most compassionate performances as Strieber's wife—it's odd to see this performance and Walken's in the same film. The movie is worth seeing if only to hear Walken ask Crouse to say "erection" and to watch him dance with the 4-foot-tall beings in their spaceship's rumpus room.
