Susan Seidelman’s tame adaptation of Fay Weldon’s darkly satirical novel about a homely woman's revenge on her cheating husband and his beautiful lover was a huge disappointment when it came out, and it plays even worse three decades later. The casting coup of teaming Meryl Streep with Roseanne Barr (making her film debut hot off her hit sitcom) turned out to be the film’s downfall since neither's performance style fits such a middle-of-the-road comedy.
