One of the better examples of a tired trend—the overly reverent sequel/reboot/homage to a beloved preexisting property—Flanagan (Oculus, Hush, Gerald's Game) pulls off a faithful adaptation of King's Shining sequel that aligns to Kubrick's film while creating an intriguing tale in its own right until it succumbs to the inevitable rehash of the original's iconography, and even that plays well enough.
