Honor Swinton Byrne captivates in Joanna Hogg's '80s coming-of-age drama about a sheltered film student who may sacrifice her dreams for an unworthy lover; but despite its precision and intention, the film lacks the gravitas of classic literary tales of foolish but passionate youth because Hogg's autobiographical specificity alienates rather than engages.
