Samara Weaving stars as a young woman who must play a life-and-death game with her husband's wealthy family on her wedding night, a tradition all who marry into this board game dynasty must potentially endure. The premise is a clever and truthful analogy for what it can be like for someone of modest means to suddenly enter a family of 1%'ers. But satire and horror are too silly to have any real bite. Much of the dialogue is so on-the-nose that it undercuts the script's metaphorical insights. And when someone is crushed by a dumbwaiter early in the proceedings, it's hard to take any later deaths very seriously.
Satirical horror thriller about a young woman who must play a life and death game with her husband's wealthy family on her wedding night is a fun and truthful metaphor for marrying into the 1% but horror and humor are too on the nose to have any real bite.
