Steven Soderbergh and Lem Dobbs re-team (they did Kafaka and The Limey together) for this action thriller starring real life mixed marshal arts champ Gina Carano. While Carano isn’t a great actress she is an awesome fighter and Soderbergh shoots her fights in a very clear, straightforward and exciting way. Plus he surrounds her with an stellar cast of supporting actors who all fit into Dobb’s sharp script. The combination works. Each fight is unique as is each encounter with her successive roster of great male sparing partners. Soderbergh makes strange choices in his projects, but when they are good I can’t complain.
