Steven Soderbergh and Lem Dobbs re-team (they did Kafka and The Limey together) for this action thriller starring real-life mixed martial arts champ Gina Carano. While Carano isn't a great actress, she is a tremendous fighter, and Soderbergh shoots her fights in a very clear, straightforward, and exciting way. Plus, he surrounds her with a stellar cast of supporting actors who all fit into Dobb's sharp script. The combination works. Each fight is unique, as is each encounter with her successive roster of great male sparing partners. Soderbergh makes strange choices in his projects, but when they are good, I can't complain.
