Catherine Breillat's semi-autobiographical provocation stars the peerless Isabelle Huppert as a semi-paralyzed film director who invites a charismatic con man (Kool Shen) to star in a film about a famous actress who gets eventually beaten to death, but what the con man does to her is almost as bad. This is not a film for the faint of heart, but it is unmistakably effective at forcing the viewer to deal with Breillat's themes on her terms.
