Maggie Betts attempts a throwback to the '90s, when courtroom dramas based on true events were a cinematic staple, in this '90s-era period piece about an elderly White businessman (Tommy Lee Jones) who hires a smooth-talking Black attorney (Jamie Foxx) to take on corporate billionaire screwing him out of his family business. Not on par with the films it wants to emulate—plot lumbers in uniform line of problem/solution, problem/solution, and characters not played by Foxx or Jones lack credibility, a sour point for movies based on actual events.
