This principally true story about friendship and finding humor in illness is a thoughtful, if thin, film. Will Reiser’s script, based on his own experiences as a cancer survivor and slacker youth, mixes the old “illness genre” with the modern “bromance”. The result is decent. Not hilariously funny or deeply moving, but it does have some new and interesting things to say about illness, and what it’s like to be struck with something as major as cancer at such a young age.
