Two small-time hoods stumble into big-time corporate collusion in Soderbergh and Solomon's period heist thriller centred on themes of race, class, and urban demographics. Everyone in the large impressive cast seems to have written into their contract that they get to double-cross everyone else, so there are far too many narrative twists to take seriously. Still an enjoyable ride despite the director’s need to shoot everything with an absurdly wide lens, distorting the corners of every frame - is Soderbergh just too bored with filmmaking these days to put effort into shooting?
