The latest from the surealist filmmaking duo Albert Birney and Kentucker Audley (Sylvio) paints a gorgeous sci-fi fantasy in the form of a dollhouse hellscape. Audley stars as an IRS auditor tasked with inspecting people’s dream recordings to assess their unpaid taxes if they haven’t upgraded to the latest internal software. He discovers a commercial conspiracy beyond his comprehension while making a routine house call. While I can't call the movie an unqualified success, I will call it a wonderfully handmade feast for the senses that covers a lot of the same thematic ground as films like Inception and The Truman Show in simpler yet vastly more intriguing ways.
