Isabel del Rosal’s leisurely romance is the kind of small movie that doesn’t get screened much outside of LGBTQ film fests. That's too bad because the film captures the awkwardness and frustrations of a new, uneasy relationship with honest details that should be relatable to anyone. Devin Dunne Cannon plays a young mother just turning thirty who has been married most of her adult life and decides to leave her husband, unsure of what's next in her life. She meets and unexpectedly falls into a relationship with a lesbian musician played by Bridget Barkan, which challenges the way she's viewed her identity even more than stepping away from the only life she'd known during her twenties. As both a coming-out drama and a lesbian romance, this picture feels like a '90s throwback in its characterizations, conflicts, and attitudes—but that isn't a complaint.
