Norwegian director Thea Hvistendahl’s adaptation of Swedish horror author John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel takes the first beat of a typical Zombie story, the arrival of the undead, and sits with it. The premise feels inspired since so many contemporary horror movies are meditations on grief and loss, but it would make a better movie if these characters, imagery, score, and overall tone weren't as lifeless as the zombies.
