This surrealist twist on Millennial-Apology-Porn, Grief Cinema, and teen suicide fetishization stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a mom who can only discover how to put her terminally ill daughter's needs before her own by getting the chance to become Death herself. Whatever else one might say about this film, there's no denying its originality. Depicting the Grim Reaper as a shapeshifting CGI macaw with a taste for Ice Cube and a Mercedes-McCambridge-after-too-many-drinks growl is surprisingly effective, though it, like everything else in the picture, is not well served by the surprisingly muddy digital cinematography by The Florida Project DP, Alexis Zabé.
